Review method
Review framework for critical tools
A practical scorecard for software, gadgets, and workflows that affect how quickly good work actually happens.
Start with consequence
The right question is not “is this tool impressive?” It is “what happens if I rely on it every week?”
Critical tools get scored against:
- friction after setup
- reliability under routine use
- portability of the underlying workflow
- how expensive it is to change your mind later
Keep the review honest
A useful review includes the exit cost. If a tool works only as long as you keep paying with time, attention, and migration pain, that belongs in the verdict.
Final rule
If a recommendation needs too much copy to defend itself, it is often not a recommendation. It is an apology.
